Few destinations are delightful to live in or visit year round. For many cities, winter is too cold and summer may be too hot or humid. Here in Knoxville, though, we can boast wonderful weather year round. Yes, Knoxville does experience all four seasons, but mildly so. In the colder months, temperatures rarely drop below 30 and in the summer rarely above the high 80s. Autumn is crisp and just cool enough and spring is simply lovely.
Ahhh, spring! One of the best times to visit Knoxville. Warm temperatures, sunny skies, and so much to do! Each spring season Knoxville plays host to a variety of exciting, culturally stimulating, and refreshing events. We’re not talking your run of the mill spring carnival, Knox (as the city is affectionately referred to) is quirky. Knox is unique. Knox is a place where creativity, imagination, and talent are celebrated and cherished. Trust us, it’s worth taking a trip to Knoxville this spring, just to enjoy an event or two.
Must Visit Events in Knoxville This Spring
#OptOutside – Outdoor Knoxfest
Playing in the great outdoors is one of the number one activities for most Knox residents, and the Outdoor Knoxfest is a fun and social way to do just that! Over the course of two days, urban adventures will abound across the city, with the event headquarters held at the Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center. Join a group mountain bike ride or race. Learn how to fly fish at the women’s fly fishing clinic. Have fun on the river during a group river paddle. Plus, so much more!
Love Biscuits? The International Biscuit Festival
May 20, 2017
By far one of Knox’s most mouthwatering festivals is The International Biscuit Festival. What began in 2009 by a group of local biscuit lovers has now evolved into a nationally recognized festival. An absolutely genius idea as everyone loves biscuits (how could you not?) and great weather. The main draw and feature of the festival are the tasting. Bite into one delicious, flaky, warm biscuit after another. Other exciting events include seeing who wins the coveted title of Miss or Mister biscuit at the biscuit pageant, viewing the biscuit art, listening to creative artists sing self-written songs about biscuits, and finding out who baked the best biscuits at the biscuit baking contests.
Be Green – Earthfest
April 15, 2017
Spend a weekend learning about all things reduce, reuse, and recycle! Protecting our beautiful planet is more crucial than ever before, and the Earthfest is a giant celebration of our efforts to do so. Live music, scavenger hunts, tree and shrub giveaway, tiny home exhibitions and more will be part of the epic Earth weekend! Bringing little ones? There will be an entire children’s section for them play and learn in!
Italian Opera, Cuisine, Art and Flair! Rossini Festival Italian Street Fair

Now in its 16th year, the Rossini Festival is an annual treat for Knoxville. For one day only, festival goers can enjoy 11 consecutive hours of live entertainment spread across five different stages. Italian cuisine, beverages, and artisans will line downtown’s Gay Street for an exceptionally colorful and lively day. Truly a sensory experience, The Rossini Festival is not to be missed!
Art Connoisseurs – Dogwood Arts Festival
April 28-30, 2017
Spring is the time to celebrate beauty in the form of artistic expression! Join Knoxville as the city comes alive with the region’s arts, culture, and natural beauty for three days in downtown Knox at the Dogwood Arts Festival. This event will feature over 60 local and regional juried artists exhibiting and selling original works. For artistic matters of the palate and stomach, enjoy cooking demonstrations, festive food creations, and delicious wine and beer pairings. Live performances will grace the Market Square stage all weekend long, and a beautiful flower market will return this year – the Blooming Boulevard.
Pick your pleasure and head to Knoxville throughout April and May to enjoy any one of these delightful festivals. Spring events in Knoxville are some of our favorites out of the entire year, and they are a great way to experience the heart and spirit of our lovely city.
